New black metal from Switzerland, synthwave from Sweden and martial industrial folk from Quebec, plus a couple of classic folk metal tracks from Poland and Ukraine on tonight’s Audio Insurgency hosted by Sven Longshanks.
New band from Quebec Drungos begin with a hypnotic martial industrial neo-folk mash up featuring shamanic drums and looped strings, before Mojave lets his wild techno boars into the bass bin play pen to shake you out of your slumber.
Wolfgaze picks up the pace with fast plucked strings and a drum and bass rhythm, while Lyde begin with strummed chords on a bass guitar before crashing in with a pounding majestic disco beat.
Atmolifter sounds like he’s been rummaging around in Holon’s black box of tricks for his ambient soundtrack flavoured offering, which leads into the pitch stretched intro of Synthicide’s new head-nodding darkynth masterpiece.
Traversing the Divide bridges the gap between retro and progressive with Kraftwerk keyboards and Rush rhythms and that’s it for the synths this week.
Sventoyar open the rock section with harps and lead-guitar call and response sounding a bit like Motanka, before Totenheer go for a Sabbath influenced intro and take us in a black metal direction.
Mavorim break up the frantic riffing with a mosh section and clear vocals in a viking style, before Lysa Gora bring back the folk influence with female vocals and Absurd go gothic, with what could be a cover version by the Damned.
Baleygr finishes the show with a tribute to Uriah Heep featuring acoustic guitar, harmonica and layered vocals.
