Dr Matthew Raphael Johnson looks at the early moral degeneracy of the Soviet Union, that is now being replicated in the west today.
The Soviets destroyed the Russian family. From the Family Code of 1918 to the 1930s, the USSR lived under a reign of sexual and parental anarchy. Marriages and divorces could be entered into at the stroke of a pen. They did not even require the consent of both parties.
While Fredrich Engels preached the free love he certainly practiced in private, this idea of the "Free Union" benefitted only dominant males. Alexandre Kollontai and Inessa Armand were the two main administrators of the new family regime. Both women were rich and used their looks and sexuality to get what they wanted out of men. They dumped their husbands for younger or richer rivals with ease, and then projected this onto the entire empire.
Of course, the legal regime was a total disaster. Children weren't properly raised, fathers didn't stay around and women could extract arbitrary amounts of alimony and child support from the men they claimed were "husbands." When Stalin clamped down on this, he did nothing more than substitute the state's demands for where the church had been a generation earlier. The old was dissolved so the new could take over without opposition.
