Sven Longshanks and Max Musson discuss Colin Campbell and his meteoric rise through the military.
Colin Campbell worked his way up from being a cabinet maker in Glasgow, to commanding all the British forces in India.
You could purchase promotion at this time and after leading the Forlorn Hope in Spain, he used his money wisely to get to a higher rank.
He went on to fight in the Crimean war, where his heroism led to ‘the thin red line’ of redcoats that scared the Russians and Turks away.
When he got to India, he relieved the siege of Lucknow and was finally promoted to The Lord Clyde for his valour and buried in Westminster Abbey.
