The human races are told that capitalism is the most efficient way to manage economic resources. Due to competition, enterprises have to use their inputs very sparingly to hold prices down. Yet, this only refers to the process of production, not the product.
The things that get produced and for what reason are irrational, inefficient and comically wasteful. Oligarchs charge rents, not prices. Markets are created, not followed.
In this talk, the work of Thorstein Veblen and many others is used to challenge and expose the conservative/libertarian fable of “capitalist rationality.”
