Oleg Platonov (b 1950) is one of the most interesting revisionist historians of 20th century Russia today. Creating the ‘Institute for the Study of Russian Civilization’ in the mid 1990s, he published the massive historical dictionary Holy Rus and his famed Encyclopedia of Russian Civilization.
Never before has the nationalist and royalist point of view been stated in such detailed terms, bringing statistics from Soviet archives never before seen, that are totally outside the competence of American writers.
His comparison of Russia and Soviet wages to the west revolutionized the field, as has his destruction of the myths about Russia's involvement in World War I.
“New Khazaria,” the phrase used by Jewish oligarchs in Ukraine, was one of the prime movers of the revolutions in 1917, 1991 and 2014.
This broadcast can only summarize a handful of the most important ideas of Platonov, but it gives a flavor of where historical writing is going outside of the USA.
