Sven Longshanks and Dr Matthew Raphael Johnson look at the global effect of disruption to Russia’s trade in fertilizer.
The Covid lockdown led to disruption in the supply chain as the world now relies upon interconnected trade, but with Russia responsible for up to 25% of the fertilizer trade and being under sanction, the price is set to almost double.
This will lead to a failure to produce enough food in the poorer countries and even the UN are now calling for a halt in sanctions on the essential chemicals.
