Despite being twice the size of the other contestants, the judges must have felt pressured to give the award to Brian Nguyen.
In France last year where there were no transgenders taking part, the whole concept of the beauty pageant is being questioned.
Three contestants who failed are suing the Miss France organisers for judging women on their appearance and insisting they be ‘beautiful’.
Perhaps Miss America is avoiding that accusation by giving Mr Nguyen the title?
