Dr Matthew Raphael Johnson looks at one of the most well known works of late Roman philosophy.
This lecture concerns the massively influential philosophy of Anicius Monlius Boethius (480-524), one of the greatest philosophers of the late Roman and early medieval periods. He, along with St. Augustine, created what today is known as medieval philosophy.
Placed in prison for a false accusation of treason, in the midst of this, he wrote his most famous work, The Consolation of Philosophy, a book that changed the western world forever.
Struggling with ideas of freedom, divine foreknowledge and even Nominalism, he helped redefine things like virtue for countless generations in the future.
