Sven Longshanks, TruthVids and PatriArt discuss how Cnut started his reign brutally, but went on to become a much loved King.
Cnut’s first policy was to kill the heirs of the previous royal bloodline, but he stopped short of killing the children of the last king and had them banished instead.
He had had the arch-traitor Edric executed, married the widow of Ethelred and exacted a might tribute from London and England.
This done, he split the country into four administrative units and batted against Sweden, with help from his new English subjects.
He became the king of English, the Danes, the Norwegians and some of the Swedes and attended the accession of the Holy Roman Emperor, winning important concessions for English pilgrims at the same time.
