Greatest Britons: Sir Oswald Mosley III – GB 042423

Sven Longshanks and Max Musson discuss the battle of Cable street and the start of war with Germany.

Oswald Mosley’s BUF regularly faced violence, including famously at Cable street, where thugs prevented them from marching through the area and exercising their democratic right to free speech.

The violence led to the formation of the Blackshirts security detail, who were then banned under a new law proscribing the wearing of political uniforms.

Once war broke out, Mosley and the BUF membership were locked up with no Habeus Corpus, as Churchill viewed them as traitors, for not wanting war with Germany.
