Sven Longshanks looks at the practice of replacing White historical characters with non-White actors.
India Amarteifio says she did not see herself represented in period dramas before, so never watched them.
This shows the natural desire that we all have, to be around our own people and to see our own people.
But by adding Black people into White history, Netflix are erasing White characters and replacing them with Black, which gives a false view of history and means White people are not seeing themselves represented.
Why not create dramas about periods in non-White history with non-White actors and vice versa for White history? Surely this would be far more satisfactory and accurate than pretending European queens were African?
