In this edition of the Orthodox Nationalist, Dr. Johnson deals with the literary treatment of the “Invisible City” of Kitezh, an ancient Russian version of a Christian utopia, primarily as part of the Old Believer movement, especially the bespopovtsy. Having miraculously sunk into the waters of Lake Svetloyar near Nizhny Novgorod as a means of escaping the Mongols, it is said to exist today only for the pure: pure in heart as well as doctrine. It is Holy Russia, sunk into the chaos of revolution. The arrogant can never see it, nor can heretics. It is the “underground” reality of Old Russia.
