Dr Matthew Raphael Johnson explains the origins of the 'Orthodox or Death' flag in this week’s episode of The Orthodox Nationalist. Esphgmenou is one of the larger Greek monasteries on the monastic republic of Mont Athos, nominally a part of Greece, but in truth, recognizing only the Byzantine state. Since 1974, the liberal Patriarch of Constantinople has had the monastery surrounded, stormed and attacked -- all to no effect. These are the men, after a failed attack on the monastic city in 1974, that created the "Orthodoxy or Death" symbol. It is theirs and those adopting it adopt their struggle. Their struggle is against the Regime: the European Union, the modern state, ecumenism, liberalism and the other diseases that Jewry has imposed on our people.
