Sven Longshanks and Dennis Wise continue their look at the Protestant Church during the pre-war years of the Third Reich, using quotes from ‘God Among the Germans’.
Jews were not banned from universities, but they were restricted to enrolling in numbers reflecting their percentage of the population.
Assimilation was seen to have failed at the group level, although at the individual level in some cases it had worked and provisions were in place for this.
They were removed from church positions, but this is something that had happened before, during the Spanish Inquisition.
The Hitler Youth eventually joined with the Evangelical Youth and a single Reich church was formed, with it’s own Bishop and in line with Positive Christianity.
This was the realisation of a long held dream of Hitler’s, but eventually the disagreements between the different Protestant factions would cause it to fall apart.
