Dr Matthew Raphael Johnson looks at the original basis for Russian nationalism.
Over the next two weeks, the social and political mentality of Old Russia – as well as the Orthodox Nationalist itself – will be discussed.
This concept of Russian nationalism is based on the teachings of the Slavophiles, a philosophical and theological movement of the mid to late 19th century.
During a time of crisis and rapid social change Russia was not used to, those such as Aleksey Khomyakov (1804-1860) and Konstantin Aksakov (1817–60) defined the Russian Ideal.
This theo-political idea is the core of Russia and cannot be overestimated as a motive force in Russian history.
