Matthew Raphael Johnson, in today's lecture, delineates the political theorizing of the great Nikolai Ivanovich Chernyaev (1853-1910), a Russian lawyer, scholar and journalist who dedicated his life to the defense of the Russian autocratic state. He is the third of the “trinity” of prerevolutionary Russian royalist writers, the other two being Lev Tikhomirov and Ivan Solonevich. Of the three, Chernyaev is the least known, but this is unjust. This lecture details the basic outline of royalist political philosophy and its relationship to the Russian experience.
