World War I to a great extent, began with the Eastern Crisis, or the Turkish default on Rothschild loans in 1875. The means of taking over the failing Ottoman state led to the Russo-Turkish War of 1877, to which this broadcast is dedicated. While the Austrians are to blame for the start of the war in their invasion of Serbia, the roots of the crisis go far deeper. Ultimately, the British artificially maintained the colonial state of Turkey, hence making sure future wars were inevitable.
