Sven Longshanks and Dennis Wise take a look at what led to the Spanish Inquisition and ask if it was really that bad after all.
The Jews helped the Moslems to invade Spain in the 8th century and were rewarded handsomely by them.
Not surprisingly the Spaniards were not very happy at this when they retook their country in the Reconquista, but they nevertheless allowed Jews and Moslems to stay in the country.
This soon caused problems though and new laws had to be created to prevent Jews from taking advantage of the Spaniards.
To avoid having to obey these laws, many Jews pretended to convert to Christianity.
The Spanish Inquisition was formed to ensure these newly converted Jews were now actually behaving like Christians and not Jews.
