Niccolo Machiavelli (1469-1527) might be termed the father of “political science.” Like all complex figures, he's used, abused and misquoted. There is much in Machiavelli that is good, useful, horrific and even true.

This broadcast deals with the foundational ideas of Machiavelli and Machiavellianism based on his definitions of luck, virtue and political rule.

Nothing here is as it seems, and a broadcast lecture like this can only skim the surface. Studying Machiavelli is to study the political repercussions of ancient history as well as its relation to revolutionary innovation.
