From 1958 to 1962, 50 million Chinese lost their lives due to the implementation of the largest social experiment in human history. The Great Leap Forward was a bloody period of unsuccessful forced industrialization leading to zero industry and food shortages so bad that the eating of corpses became commonplace.

Despite this, Mao today is considered a profound social theorist and humanitarian. Western journalists, idiotic at their best, fully supported Mao's propaganda without criticism or comment so even today, Mao's inhuman crimes – fully admitted by Party documents of the time – are still largely unknown.
