This weeks Orthodox Nationalist returns to the theological realm. Matthew Raphael Johnson discusses the (1909) essay “Discourse against Those Claiming Jesus Christ was a Revolutionary,” by Metropolitan Anthony Khrapovitsky (1863-1936), the first head of the Russian Orthodox Church in Exile. The Left has always tried to claim that Christ was a “democrat,” a “socialist” or a defender of the “poor against the rich.” Metropolitan Anthony refutes this distortion and goes to the heart of what “the political” meant in the context of the Roman occupation.
