Dennis Wise joinsSven Longshanks to discuss why Germany under Hitler was called the Third Reich. The Reich was the Holy Roman empire and Hitler was resurrecting it again, complete with himself as Holy Roman Emperor. The centre of the empire was to be at Nuremberg, as the crown jewels were supposed to be held there for eternity. However they were removed to Austria to protect them from Napolean and it was Hitler who returned them. Along with the imperial crown and spear of destiny that St Longinus used to pierce Christ’s side, Hitler collected many other relics such as a piece of wood from the True Cross, cloth from the robe worn by the apostle John, links from a chain that shackled Saint Paul, soil soaked with the blood of Saint Stephen, and a bone relic of Saint Maurice (the patron saint of the Holy Roman Empire). The Teutonic Knights were the original protectors of the imperial regalia and the SS played the same role in the Third Reich, but the similarities did not stop there. Their uniforms were to the same design, their devotion to honour and chivalry were the same and the SS even had replicas of the spear and crown jewels at Wewelsberg castle. The SS even liberated the same countries in the east from Bolshevism that they had formerly converted to Christianity by crusade in the past and belief in a Lord God was essential for the unit to function.
