The Ukraine conflict was seen as a good excuse to accelerate the green agenda and deprive Russia of gas profits, but this has backfired.
Green energy is not yet advanced enough and energy prices have gone through the roof, causing the populations of Europe to get restless, something Germany and France are keen to prevent populists from utilising.
The source of the problem is sanctions preventing companies contracted for maintenance work on Russian pipelines fulfilling their obligations, leading to shortage of supply and increase in price.
Turkey has been acting as middleman for some countries, but Germany’s Nordstream 1 is only operating at 20% capacity because of this problem.
Russia is not deliberately putting the price up, the west is.
