Sven Longshanks, TruthVids and PatriArt discuss Alfred’s early life up to the baptism of Guthrum.

Alfred became King by default after his brothers all died and from losing 6 of the 7 kingdoms of the heptarchy to the Danes, Alfred was able to defeat the Danes and take back the island, forcing the Danes to accept him as overlord.

Guthrum of the Danes got baptised and settled to  the north of Alfred and once there was peace, Alfred was able to move forward with the plans he had for improving the lives of his subjects.

*Ugarit was one of the first places to have writing and libraries, not one of the first to have the English language
