Sven Longshanks looks at the Shawcross report into Britain’s counter terror organisation Prevent linking Jacob Rees Mogg to far right extremism.
The report identifies Islamic extremism as the biggest threat to Britain, not far right extremism.
As well as diverting resources away from where they are most needed, Prevent also extended the term ‘far right’ to include Brexiteers, Jacob Rees Mogg, Nigel Farage and the Brexit and Reform parties.
The advice being given is that Prevent need to distinguish between Islam and Islamism, but they should also draw a distinction between non-extremist Nationalism and the extreme right wing, if they want to prevent people like Jacob Rees Mogg and Nigel Farage being included.
