Sven Longshanks looks at the Wales Government’s plans to remove, demolish and cover up statues of historical British heroes.
First Minister Drakeford’s administration have produced guidance on characters such as Lord Nelson and the Duke of Wellington, saying statues of them need to be hidden or destroyed, to give the ‘right’ historical narrative.
The guidance thinks that statues of healthy White men from Britain’s past implies that Britain did not care for the achievements of non-Whites, when the fact of the matter is there were few if any non-Whites in Britain at all, to carry out any noble acts that deserved to be memorialised in stone.
This is what they are really trying to hide from people with their rewriting of history, along with slandering our ancestors by claiming the institution of slavery should be judged by the worst examples of it and pretending Africa is not just as implicated in it as everywhere else was.
